What you can do is transfer your 401K to a brokerage IRA and work with the new broker to find investments that are appropriate for you. Be sure to do the transfer directly to the new brokerage company, otherwise you can be penalized 10% for an early distribution.

A couple of years ago when the market was really bad and my 401k was losing money by the month, I aggressively re-invested my money into traditionally high performing funds that were very cheap because of the market. Well, that strategy worked because in 2009, I had a 27% return on my investment. I have since left my job, and do not know what I want to do with my money. I know I can:

1. Rollover to my new 401k
2. Rollover into a IRA
3. Leave the money there, but I won't be able to add to it anymore, and let it just fluctuate

The reason I am hesitant to roll the money over because I would then have to reinvest my money into new funds at todays market prices, and I know I won't achieve the same return on my investment. I am not an investment guru, so I am looking for a little advice.
